DUALITY - MATERIAL STUDY
concrete, paraffin wax, steel, 2019
This work is the combination of two materials that I often incorporate into my practice used together within a single form to create a hybrid materiality. I chose the shape of the brick or the building block, drawn to its solidity and totality. The concrete leaked down the sides of the wax, blurring the clear meeting place of the two materials. This enhanced the hybridity of the work but also revealed the trueness of each individual material. Wax, compliant, soft and malleable. Concrete, strong, overpowering and heavy.
